The site counted 7,070 open jobs throughout 2022, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a> counts a total of 197,000 \u201cdigital designers\u201d in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s not certain whether the Bureau of Labor Statistics takes trends like AI into account, but for now, the number of digital designers is predicted to grow by 23%<\/a> from 2021-2031.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While these numbers look good, it doesn\u2019t mean you can start your job search on Monday and land a role by Friday. It\u2019s still competitive out there, and finding work takes time and persistence, regardless of your career choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The scope of UX design and the difference between UI (user interface) and UX design<\/a> are frequently discussed topics. The short answer is that UI design refers only to the design of user interfaces for digital products, while UX design encompasses various aspects of the user\u2019s interaction with any kind of product or service. Here are some of the areas UX designers are involved in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Right now, Glassdoor<\/a> shows 2,312 UX design job openings in the United States. Indeed<\/a> shows 3,684. Apple<\/a> lists 55 UX-related roles at its company worldwide, and Google<\/a> lists 471. Amazon lists a further 81 UX design-related jobs within its company, and Microsoft<\/a> shows 640.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Demand for UX designers<\/a> definitely exists, and it\u2019s no surprise when you think about it. Every product available has to go through some form of UX design process, and there is a staggering amount of digital products and services available around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When considering a new career, it\u2019s important to be objective and realistic about what you\u2019re getting into. No job is perfect, and the right combination of specific advantages and drawbacks changes from person to person. Here\u2019s what to think about for UX design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The topic of AI is on everyone\u2019s lips right now, and aspiring UX designers want to know if they can still have a successful career in the industry. The tech layoffs of late 2022 and 2023 are also a cause of concern that we\u2019ll look into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We don\u2019t think so. AI-generated art isn\u2019t clean; it isn\u2019t pixel-perfect, and\u2014most importantly\u2014while AI can produce an image, it can\u2019t yet build an entire interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some people writing on the subject<\/a> ask questions like \u201cHow long do you think it will take for someone to fuse these models into a production-ready system?\u201d The answer is that if this ever happens, it\u2019ll take a really long time. Enormous steps would need to be taken to achieve that, and we\u2019re not there yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Plus, that\u2019s only addressing visual design. UX is a lot more than just that\u2014it\u2019s user research, it\u2019s focus groups, it\u2019s accessibility functions. It\u2019s thinking, designing, and iterating systems and ideas for a product that doesn\u2019t even exist yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As AI evolves and improves, it will hopefully learn to do some jobs well enough that we can entrust it to automate certain tasks.
