In July 2015, there was a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/datascience?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#datascience<\/a> skills surplus of 35K in the 100 largest U.S. cities. Legion product designer Tommy Koo explained how important mentorship was to his success.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Some of our incredible alumni are sharing their stories at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SpringboardRise?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#SpringboardRise<\/a>. For <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kootommy?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@kootommy<\/a>, one-on-one mentorship was &quot;a big deal.&quot; He added, &quot;I&#39;m still friends with my mentor today. It featured Bekah Thayer, the Lean In programs manager at the Sheryl Sandberg &amp; Dave Goldberg Family Foundation; Sameera Poduri, a data science manager at Uber; Megan Witmer, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.springboard.com\/blog\/design\/becoming-a-ux-researcher\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.springboard.com\/blog\/design\/becoming-a-ux-researcher\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UX researcher<\/a> at the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative; and Mansha Mahtani, a data scientist at Instagram.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The women discussed career transitions, how to judge a company&#8217;s culture during the interview process, and the importance of mentorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mansha Mahtani delivered one of the quotes of the day during a conversation about mistakes and learning from failures: &#8220;Sleep is so underrated.
