Springboard is one of the best decisions that I've made. A few weeks after the course, I accepted the job of Marketing Director with Adam America.

I wanted to further expand my skillset.

Having many creative work experiences as a fashion designer at companies, such as Marc Jacobs, Alice & Olivia, and Eli Tahari, I would work with the design team to present collections during New York Fashion Week. I wanted to hone in and develop my skills in strategic design. I felt that learning UX Design would offer a greater understanding of the identity of each brand and the persona of their clients.

I realized good user research is the backbone of great design.

I have always been drawn to roles with - outreach and planning, more concept and creativity. It was through the Springboard course that I began to understand that UX Design can be applied to all areas. User Experience lets you understand a client’s wants and needs, and it challenges you to design or re-brand a product to appeal to the unique demographic of that client. That’s the level of involvement and imagination I’d been looking for! Springboard helped shape how I view design and functionality.

UX Design is about learning to communicate with different teams and understanding what people want.

Springboard put me on a structured path that was easy to follow.

Initially, I started by reading random articles that I found, but over time it became difficult to figure out who was actually credible. That’s why I loved the way that Springboard ‘catered’ the learning experience. It filtered out all of the bad resources, and presented me with the user experience articles and videos that were up to industry standards. It was great to be able to access the coursework from anywhere at any time, which worked great with my morning train commutes in New York City!

My mentor encouraged me to take risks.

I was so lucky to have Andre as my mentor. He took the time to get to know me and work with me in a way that would suit my background. Through the conversations in our weekly calls, Andre helped me discover my strengths and weaknesses and gave me advice on how to approach different situations and concepts. When I struggled to understand the complexity of layers in the user research section, Andre patiently explained the importance of all of the steps and helped me leverage my bubbly personality to go out and interview people-- I actually went to Wall Street during lunchtime, because I knew that’d be the best time to catch the potential users for my capstone project, and I did quick interviews on the street with a few strangers!
